The folks over at Fashionable Academics want to know what a feminist looks like. Sometimes, like this:
I have considered myself a feminist since...well, for as long as I can remember. In my family there was never any question that women are equal to men, that women deserve the same opportunities, rights and responsibilities as men, that women should be allowed to have choices: in school, in work, in making their lives, in friends, in lovers, and, maybe most importantly because it can make all the other choice possible, in having or not having children when and if they are ready.
Access to birth control, sex education, and abortion are paramount.
Did you know there are folks in the House of Representatives that want to take away the decades old funding that allows low-income women to access family planning services like birth control, breast cancer screenings, regular exams, and pap tests? These folks (mostly Republicans who seem to have forgotten Nixon started this program, called Title X, or that George H. W. Bush was nicknamed Rubbers in his early days as a politician) clearly do not grasp that not only would this hurt countless women and teens across the country. Oh, and it will increase the need for abortion. Isn't lowering the need for abortion the "middle ground?" Phew. So....
You can too. Visit www.PlannedParenthoodAction.org to find out how.
